Abbey Ellis has been named the WNBL’s Betty Watson Breakout Player of the Year.
In her first season back from college, Ellis made a splash in the 2024 NBL1 South season, averaging 19.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for the Diamond Valley Eagles.
Her stellar play led her to Townsville, where she signed with the WNBL’s Fire for this current season. She started 20 of 21 games for the Fire, averaging 9.5 points and shooting 35 per cent from the arc – being a major contributor to their 15-6 regular season record.
After the Fire’s finals run, Ellis will return to the Eagles for 2025. The 24-year-old guard is set for a major season, learning from the best of the best in Coach of the Year Shannon Seebohm and former NBL1 North MVP Courtney Woods.
The NBL1 South starts March 29th. Stay up-to-date with all the latest signings via the Roster Tracker here.
