Australian basketball star Alice Kunek has returned home to play for the Nunawading Spectres for the 2023 NBL1 season.
Having spent the offseason in Hungary with European powerhouse Sopron Basket, Kunek helped guide her side to a Hungarian Cup Championship, Hungarian League Championship and a Euroleague Quarter Final appearance.
Kunek played 16 games for the Spectres across the 2022 NBL1 South season, where she averaged 20.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists. She now joins the 10th of the ladder Spectres to make a Finals run.
Spectres head coach Paul Flynn said he is happy to welcome the Opal back to the squad and says her impact on and off the floor is immeasurable.
“It’s great to be welcoming Alice back into the team,” he said.
“It was always the plan to bring her back in post-Europe, and I am thrilled we’ve been able to make that happen.”
“AK (Kunek) was such a pivotal part of our team last season, and the way in which she immersed herself within the club culture, was invaluable. Her leadership on and off the floor, and her willingness to share her experiences with our emerging talent will benefit our program for years to come.”
Kunek will join the team for Saturday's clash against the Casey Cavaliers, from 5:30pm AEST live via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App here.
