Angus Glover has typically been a catch-and-shoot offensive weapon for the Illawarra Hawks and Sydney Kings in the NBL, but he’s expecting to build out other parts of his game with the Eltham Wildcats this NBL1 South campaign.
Glover – who recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Kings – heads to the Wildcats off the back of consecutive title triumphs with Sydney, and has quickly become a local hero due to his courageous plays in the decisive Game 5 against the New Zealand Breakers.
He’ll be linking up with South East Melbourne’s Owen Foxwell, Melbourne’s Callum Dalton and former Melbourne guard Sam Short in a young Eltham side.
“I think NBL1 for a lot of guys – and the WNBL women as well – is where we work on our craft and try a couple of new things here and there,” Glover said on The Huddle.
“I’ll come in trying to work on a bit more off the bounce stuff, some playmaking … trying to be a bit more of a leader as well.“I’m not too fussed about numbers or anything. I just want to win and be known as a winner wherever I go.
“We’ve got a pretty good roster, but I think a big thing I want to do is work on those things, and the rest will take care of itself."
Should Kings teammate and great mate DJ Vasiljevic re-join the Diamond Valley Eagles for the upcoming NBL1 season, there’s a chance Glover and his two-time NBL championship teammate could directly match up on each other.
The pair have been teammates at the Kings since 2020 and have grown up playing juniors and representative basketball together over the journey.
“DJ and I are boys, and it’s going to be funny if we end up playing against each other,” Glover said.
“We’ve been playing together for so long now, and it’ll definitely be weird.“If it happens, it happens. I’m sure if he’s not playing he’ll probably be on the sidelines talking trash anyway.”
