NBL1 South star Ben Ayre says that his Sandringham Sabres will be the Coles Express NBL1 National Champions this year.
On Anneli Maley’s Under the Surface podcast, responding to a fan’s question of ‘who will win the National Title’, Ayre stated that the Sabres will be that team.
“Yeah, that’s us,” he said.
“I don’t really see a team beating us, definitely not from the South. It’s wraps for the South. We are definitely winning that.”
Ayre came in this season as a replacement for the NBL1 South MVP and Defensive Player Shea Ili. Despite the massive shoes to fill, Ayre has been outstanding averaging 24 points per game, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists for Sandringham.
He took his game to another level in the NBL1 South Finals, dropping 23 points, 12 assists and four rebounds against the Knox Raiders to advance his team to the Preliminary Final.
The on-the-rise point guard will take on the Cinderella story Diamond Valley Eagles, who have risen to the Preliminary Finals from seventh place after beating Nunawading and Frankston in the past two rounds.
