After a productive campaign in NBL1 Central, Jasper Rentoy will return to his home state and play for the Albury-Wodonga Bandits in the 2025 NBL1 East season.
Averaging 12.3 points, 7.7 assists and four rebounds a game for the Eastern Mavericks in 2023, the Australian-Filipino guard will now lead the charge for the Finalists from last season.
His playmaking brilliance earned him a development player contract with the Sydney Kings, playing in six games across the pre-season and regular season under the mentorship of former NBL MVP Jaylen Adams.
Last playing in the East in 2022 with the Inner West Bulls, Rentoy explained he’s excited to return and prove himself even further.
“I was really intrigued, a kid from Sydney heading down in Albury. I quite like that challenge, I quite like that narrative,” he said on 7 News.
“I’m a great product of that (the NBL1), I never made a state team. I was never in those national training programs, but I put my head down, worked hard and saw the opportunity with the NBL come about and thankfully got the opportunity to play for the Kings.”
After leading the Bandits to their first finals appearance since entering the NBL1 in 2019, head coach Matt Kowalczyk said he’s excited to bring in another talented playmaker.
“He’s a guy who has a lot to prove, being an undersized guard who has been doubted his entire career,” Kowalczyk said.
“And this is an opportunity for him to come in and show what he’s capable of doing on a really big stage.”
While this is the first of many signings, Kowalczyk warned fans to expect a different line-up to the one that finished 5th last season with a 13-7 record.
“The business makes it difficult to bring guys back a lot of the time unfortunately,” he said.
“Expect a bit of a different look this year.”
