NBL veteran Brad Newley has re-signed with the Frankston Blues for the next two seasons.
Averaging 17 points for the NBL1 South Finals team, the 38-year-old Olympian will stay with the Blues for the next two NBL1 seasons.
Newley told Frankston that he's enjoyed being with the community the Blues have cultivated.
"It's a great community here in Frankston. I like coming out and playing in front of all the juniors and the supporters," he said.
"We've got a good atmosphere here and they really get behind the team, it's been a lot of fun. I’ve really enjoyed playing under Hamsy (Head Coach Andrew Harms) and Jacko (Assistant coach Adam Jackson).
Starting his NBL career in 2004, Newley has seen the growth of both the NBL and the NBL1 across the 2000s. He said that the NBL1 level has been a great way for him to stay prepared for the NBL.
"You know at the NBL level, you're in the club every day, you've got access to all your whatever you need basically. So, with NBL1, it's kind of like you just come in two times a week and you put in and go your very hardest training," he said.
"You're playing a little bit more for your community, not as much the city. But yeah, it's a lot of fun, there’s a little bit less stress with it, which you can kind of just enjoy your game a little bit more.
"You're not under so much scrutiny. But at the same time, you know it's you don't want to take it for granted. Because there are some very good players in this competition and it's a credit to how strong the young Victorian players are."
