Coming off one of the best games of his life, Angus Glover is confident the Eltham Wildcats can win their first SEABL/NBL1 title in history.
Hitting an outrageous game-winner in the Preliminary Finals over the Frankston Blues, the two-time NBL champion finished with 36 points, 10 rebounds and 10 three-pointers to advance to the NBL1 South Grand Final.
“Honestly, it was just there. There was gonna be some time on the clock,” he told NBL Media.
“But after the final buzzer went off my reaction was like WTF did I just do.”
While the Ballarat Miners have been arguably the best team all season, they finished the season tied in second place with a 15-7 record.
However, the Finals journey started with a lacklustre 58-97 loss to Frankston. Bouncing back in the Semi Finals, they defeated Dandenong and got past Sandringham by the skin of their teeth to advance to the Grand Final.
Glover explained that despite the Miners’ form, the Wildcats are confident they can win it all.
“I’m super confident in the group, we have to get the job done on Saturday. I think it will be a very tight game with adjustments throughout from both sides,” he said.
While Ballarat have been consistent, the Wildcats are on a historic run. Winning 9 of their past 10 games since Round 11 – impressive given they have clawed through the Elimination, Semi and Preliminary Finals.
With his championship experience in the NBL, Glover explained how momentum vs consistency will play a factor in Saturday’s result.
“I’ve been a part of one team who went on to win 13 straight games and go on to win the title, and a team that showed as up the top all year,” he said.
“I know what mindset both teams will be in and I know it won’t matter when that ball is thrown up Saturday. It comes down to two teams who deserve to be there and who wants it more.”
