Anthony Drmic has gone from an NBL1 Central champion with the West Adelaide Bearcats, to an NBL champion with the Tasmania JackJumpers in the span of 18 months – and he’s looking at adding another one before NBL25.
While Bearcats had a slow start to their 2024 campaign, but Drmic assured he was confident in another championship win.
West Adelaide’s championship pedigree wasn’t enough to start the season hot, losing three of their first five games of the season. A stark contrast to their 106-95 win over the Forestville Eagles in the 2023 Grand Final.
Now 5-5 heading into Round 10, and with the addition of Akoldah Gak, the team have the tools to take it all the way.
“If we stay healthy and we have all our bodies, we’re going back-to-back for sure. I’m not doubting that at all,” Drmic said on the latest episode of the NBL1 Central Unleashed Podcast.
“I respect the other teams but I fully believe in the capabilities of the players we have.
“Keys for us - it’s always been the same – play fast, play a bit of defence, get some rebounds, and then in transition we’re gonna be trouble. Teams are going to struggle to keep up with us in transition.”

The 32-year-old averages 32.2 points per game this season on 59.5 per cent shooting, a clear indicator of his championship experience.
In Round 8, he scored 24 points in West Adelaide’s 104-81 win to the Sturt Sabres.
Looking to continue his strong shooting form this season, Drmic and the Bearcats take on the Woodville Warriors on Saturday at 8:15pm local time. You can watch the game live via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.
