Former SEABL/NBL1 South Championship winning coach Brad Chalmers will be a new face on the sideline having recently signed on as the Sunshine Coast Phoenix NBL1 Men’s Head Coach for the next three seasons.
The experienced Chalmers will take over from Dale Ryan, who has moved into the role of Senior Program’s Director at the club.
Chalmers brings a wealth of experience and success to a club eager to be a final’s contender in the second year of the revamped NBL1 North competition.
A former CBA/SEABL player for the Albury Wodonga Bandits with over 250 games to his name, Chalmers transitioned into coaching, first as an assistant coach for three years, before taking on the Bandit’s head coaching position for 10 seasons.
Under his leadership the Bandits were two-time SEABL Conference Champions (2012 and 2015) and National SEABL Champions in 2012, with Chalmers coaching success recognised with his SEABL Coach of the Year award in 2012.
Chalmers' performance over many years was also recognised when he was chosen to lead the NBL1 All-Stars team on a tour to Thailand, winning the Sisaket World Invitational Event in 2019.
Looking to relocate north later this month, Chalmers expressed his anticipation of what the role would afford him.
"I am looking forward to getting to town and meeting everyone and immersing myself into the Phoenix family and broader Sunshine Coast community," he said.
Sunshine Coast Phoenix Senior Program’s Director Dale Ryan had this to say regarding the club’s decision to appoint Chalmers to this key role: "We had a number of highly credentialed candidates apply for the role, but Brad stood out with his coaching knowledge, passion for the game and experience in stakeholder engagement.
"We can’t wait for the 2022 NBL1 season to kick off and feel very privileged for someone of Brad’s calibre to be leading our Men’s program."
