The Cockburn Cougars have signed Danish national team player Sarah Mortensen for the 2023 NBL1 season.
The 6'1 guard/forward is currently playing in the DBBL for the Halle Lions, averaging 16.1 points per game and shooting 38 percent from outside.
At in the 2022-2021 season at Villanova, she averaged 11 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Head coach Throne Thwaites said Sarah's quick development trajectory caught his eye and thinks her style will fit the Cougars this season.
"Sarah is getting better, and it's happening quickly," he said.
"Her trajectory out of her final year at Villanova, and then the rapid improvement between her two seasons highlights to us she's a hard worker with a growth mindset.
"Sarah strikes the perfect balance for us as an athlete. We know in order to push ourselves into a top two or three team in this conference, we have to bolster our capacity to defend, without losing too much offence."
Coach Thwaites said that with the combination of Steph Gorman (coming from the Ballarat Miners) and Mortensen, the team should be able to maintain their elite offence and build a defensive foundation with the core of their team.
