NBL1 South and Basketball Victoria is pleased to announce a new award in the NBL1 South competition - the 'CREST Shield'. A key foundation in the formation of NBL1 South in late 2018 was gender equity; most notably, a requirement that associations field both a women and men’s team in the competition.
The Shield has been struck in a move to recognise the best on-court performance by an association; more specifically, by combining the number of wins during the regular season from both the men's and women's teams. This initiative will commence in 2024 and will continue in future seasons.
The acronym CREST stands for ‘Combined Results End of Season Tally;’ the name stemming from suggestions from the League Advisory Panel (LAP).
NBL1 South League Manager Alison Cody explained “Winning games is exactly what the associations want to achieve week to week, but we also recognise that there can only be two championship winning teams at season’s end. Our associations, their staff and volunteers go to a lot of effort to field their teams and we considered the introduction of the ‘CREST Shield’ as another way to celebrate the success of a program.”
For the 2024 season we are pleased to announce the inaugural CREST Shield has been awarded to Knox Raiders!
Knox, between their men’s and women’s teams collected 33 wins out of a possible 44 games across the regular season.
Congratulations to the Knox Raiders on winning the inaugural ‘CREST Shield.’
