Mia Parkin and Jem Whitton have signed on for the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 Central season as part of the Norwood Flames.
Parkin, who has just been selected in the U18 SA Metro State Team, has come along in leaps and bounds over the past 12 months.
Her athleticism and speed in the open court is always dangerous.
Parkin’s shooting has also improved, as she consistently knocks down mid-range shots or three-pointers.
She led the Flames' U18 team in scoring, at 15.1 points per game last season.
Coach Terry McNamara had this to say about Parkin: "Mia possesses many of the attributes necessary to develop into a dominant senior player.
"Her athleticism, explosiveness and desire to compete coupled with the dedication to learn and improve presents an exciting prospect out of our junior program."
The season proves a great challenge and opportunity for Parkin as she looks to make the transition from juniors to senior basketball.
She will complement the current Norwood NBL1 playing roster with her dynamic style of play.
Speaking about her signing, Parkin said: "I'm really excited for the season ahead, it's a great opportunity for me.
"We have a strong roster with some amazing players that I'm looking forward to learning from."
Whitton is a strong, physical forward who plays with maturity, poise and IQ beyond her years.
Adept at guarding bigger players in the post, she has also improved her offensive game to shoot perimeter shots or attack the hoop.
A natural leader, she communicates well on and off-court.
In 2021, she was called up to play six NBL1 games, with a season-high of 10 points against Centrals.
Coach Terry McNamara said: "Jem is a talented and hard-working member of the squad whose maturity is beyond her years.
"She is strong at the basket, has great court knowledge and is a natural leader.
"I'm excited to play a part in her development and what she will add to our team."
Whitton added: "I'm just so thankful for how the girls in the team and all the coaching staff have made the transition from juniors to seniors so smooth for me.
"I'm really looking forward to the season ahead and to continue learning and developing."
