The confidence of NBL1 Central men’s leader in assists per game, Sturt’s Jordan Forbes, is at its highest when squaring up to crowd-favourite Branden Jenkins.
Revealing on the latest episode of NBL1 Central Unleashed podcast, as a respectful trash talker himself, Forbes loves matching up to Central District Lions’ import Jenkins.
“No animosity but Branden Jenkins, when he stops on the floor you know he’s going to take shots and you know he’s a crowd pleaser,” the reigning conference MVP said.
“He might point at you or he might point at the bench, he might shoot an arrow after a three.
“Certain matchups like that you know you can’t stay quiet, you’ve got to bring some type of fire.”
But the 26-year-old guard insisted the confidence is consistent, not just against his fellow American.
“My confidence goes wherever I go,” Forbes said.
Averaging 19.7 points, nine rebounds and six assists per game this season, Forbes prides himself on being a diverse player, able to assist the team in any way – shown by their 14-3 record.
“I definitely pride myself on being an all-around guy. I don’t want to just be 20 points, two rebounds, two assists, or just be five points, ten rebounds and ten assists - I want to be everywhere,” the American import said.
“Sturt allows me to be more all-around, because I don’t have to carry the scoring load every single night.”
With the same win/loss record as the first-placed Forestville Eagles, Sturt has a serious chance to make a run for the title and avoid repeating last year’s Preliminary Finals finish.
“It’s an urge to win this year. We don’t know what the Sabres will look like next year, all we know is that we’ve got the team to win this year,” Forbes said.
The Sabres will be on the road this weekend against the Eastern Mavericks on Saturday, from 8:15pm ASCT streaming live via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.
