The Southern Districts Spartans have announced the signing of Dwight Hicks as their Coles Express NBL1 North Women's Head Coach.
With a long history at the Darkside, Hicks was identified early as the perfect coach to execute the overhaul at Rowland Cowan and lead the Lady Spartans into the 2022 NBL1 North season.
There isn’t much Hicks hasn’t done as a player or coach.
He was a former Brisbane Bullet, American College athlete and a member of the Champion Spartans side of 1998.
After moving from the floor to the sideline, Hicks has filled a host of coaching roles including Brisbane Bullets DAT Development Coach, various Queensland State coaching positions, QBL Assistant Coach, and heading up the Citipointe Christian College Basketball program.
"Dwight’s pedigree is unique and enticing him back to the Darkside in such a key role at this pivotal time for our program, is monumental for us," Spartans Director of Coaching Aja Parham-Ammar said.
"He’s been a part of our history and is now becoming part of our future.
"We couldn’t have asked for a better coach to lead the Carina Leagues Club Lady Spartans."
Hicks is already deep in his roster rebuild and knows exactly the type of player he wants.
"This year we’ll play with pace and be defensively aggressive," he said.
"I need unselfish players who do what it takes to get the results by putting the team first.
"The Spartans are a strong association with a big history of success.
"I’m focused on reestablishing the strong junior pathway that we had in the 90s and 2000s to ensure longevity and loyalty to our program."
