Sunshine Coast Phoenix rising star Haylee Andrews has taken her game to a new level this season.
The Townsville junior signed with the Phoenix this offseason, and she has been outstanding in the women’s program.
In back-to-back games, she’s had double-digit assists and has led the offensive charge alongside veteran Carlie Smith – averaging 11.3 points per game, 5.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds for the season.
Having spent the past few months further south, Andrews said the lifestyle of the Sunshine Coast has been second to none.
“It’s been amazing, there’s great beaches around, great food and a great community that comes out and supports us at all the home games, so it’s really exciting,” she told Jon Guarna before the NBL1 North Game of the Week.
“It’s stunning, not only the beaches but the weather too. It’s sunny all the time, good coffee shops, good cafes, good food, so it’s fun.”
With all the best teams around the country coming to compete in this year’s National Finals, Andrews explained the event will inspire the next generation of players on the Sunshine Coast.
“I think the growth of the game, especially in the Sunny Coast region, it’s growing rapidly,” she said.
“I think it’s a great way for locals and the kids to come out and watch some of the best teams compete.”
