Basketball Australia Centre of Exellence star and now Adelaide Lightnings gun Isobel Borlase has been dominating in the WNBL thus far.
The 18-year-old and the gold medallist with the U18 Gems in the FIBA Asian Cup was outstanding in the NBL1 last season, beating teams at the top of the NBL1 West ladder the Willetton Tigers and the Warwick Senators.
This offseason Borlase signed with the Lightning after practicing with them the season prior. In her first game, she dropped 25 points against the Southside Flyers and has continued her hot streak into Round 4.
For the season she is averaging 15.7 points, nine rebounds and 3.2 assists and has been one of the stand-out stars at the start of the season.
Lightning coach and Canberra Nationals head coach Natalie Hurst said everyone is just now catching up to our good Borlase is.
“We're not surprised about what she is, everyone's catching on now,” Hurst said.
“Seeing Izzy with the CoE, they got to travel around and play against all the top NBL1 teams and to see what she did against them. Like I said before, we knew how special she is, everyone got a bit of a taste in those in those (NBL1) games that they played with the COE – and now they're getting a big taste of it in the WNBL.
“I know she's gonna be heavily scouted from now on but you know, Izzy she's a tough cover. And I hope she just improves as the season goes on.”
