The American import Jerron Jamerson didn’t envision himself making a home for himself in Queensland, let alone up north in Darwin as a young athlete playing in Indiana.
The explosive guard was the 2021 NBL1 North Grand Final MVP and has spent the past four years of his life in Queensland. Last season with the Darwin Salties, Jamerson averaged 20 points per game and eight rebounds for the finals team.
After representing Australia in 3×3 Tainan City Challenger, Jamerson is running back with the Salties for the 2023 season.
“Darwin was the first place went to when I came to Australia. It has been fantastic to come full circle and to see the community and the organisation just be able to grow and make necessary steps to get an NBL1 team,” he said.
“It was just crazy, win, lose or tie. Every game besides one or two was sold out all season. It was unbelievable how the community got around this team, and that was the best part for me.”
The Salties fell short in the NBL1 North finals against the eventual runners-up the USC Rip City, featuring the NBL1 North MVP and NBL champion Wani Swaka Lo Buluk.
Jamerson said it was a great experience for him to see how far basketball in the state has grown.
“In all of my time in Queensland, that was the first time I’ve seen the level of competition be that high,” he said.
“It’s always been a good competition don't get me wrong but that’s the first time I’ve seen it so evenly spread.
“We were looking at everybody, ourselves included and said everybody in this race could win the championship.”
