NBL1 South’s Casey Cavaliers’ latest signing Alice Kunek has a mission to help the younger generation at her new club.
The WNBL star with the Townsville Fire has been a mainstay in the South, playing for her junior club, the Eltham Wildcats in 2019 and Nunawading Spectres for the past two seasons.
“I loved my time in Nunawading, I just had a great group of girls,” Kunek said on the latest episode of the NBL1 South Podcast.
“Mentoring the younger generation was part of why I wanted to go to Nunawading. Part of it I guess you could say, was my duty is to help the younger generation.
“I was in that position, and sometimes it can be really hard to navigate as a person and as a player in those ages, so just having someone that you can turn to and help you along the journey and giving any little piece of advice.”
Kunek further added the introduction of all-girls clinics for the Casey community.
“I’m hoping to run an all-girls camp out in Casey during the offseason. So it’s something that I’m really looking forward to and that was a special moment for me to help kids and inspire that next generation,” she said.
“As basketballers, we do have that duty to give back to the younger generation because someone did that for us, and I think that’s really so special about basketball.
“You do get that opportunity to give back to the younger generation. Casey, that demographic out there, they are really trying to build the club. I think what they’re doing is really special, it’s just about opportunities and giving people your time.”
