Former G-League player and Nigerian rising star Efe Abogidi is set to have a breakout season in NBL1 Central commentator according to Allan Browne.
The name may sound familiar, as he shocked the world back in 2017 – going viral with this behind-the-free-throw dunk.
Abogidi is very familiar with Australia, spending a lot of formative time in the country training and rehabilitating at the former NBA Academy in Canberra.
The 23-year-old will now head to Adelaide, signing with the Central Districts Lions back in October – promising athleticism and excitement at STARplex stadium with his 6’10” frame.
He suffered a torn ACL in 2017 while playing in Australia, and has had an unfortunate streak of injuries since. His last full season was in 2022-2023, playing 22 games for the G-League Ignite averaging 8.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and a block per game.
Heading into 2025, Lions commentator Browne has seen Abogidi working out and believes he is set for a major season.
“Have a look at some of the stuff he achieved in the G-League, he was very, very close to getting a gig in the NBA until injury took him down” he said on the SA Shotclock.
“He’s on his way back, he still has dreams and aspirations of hitting that NBA court. To be honest, from the footage I’ve seen and seeing him at STARplex three or four weeks ago… Just watching him for about five or six minutes, watching him do his thing, he’s going to be a monster of the league.
“This is absolutely not Centrals biased whats so ever, he’ll be a top three favourite for Woollacott (MVP).”
NBL1 Central starts on March 29th. Stay up-to-date with all the latest signings via the Roster Tracker here.
