After a championship run in the NBL1 North, Morgan Yaeger will return home in 2025.
The South Australian product played four seasons of state-level basketball in her hometown before moving to the North, starting with Forestville in the Premier League back in 2016, and then three seasons with the Southern Tigers from 2021-2024 – where she won the inaugural Central title.
In those championship teams, she's been the flammable scorer to get the team over the hump. In 2025, she will return to the Central competition, this time as a leader for the Eastern Mavericks.
Reflecting on her second championship with the Rockhampton Cyclones, Yaeger explained the team’s underdog mentality got them over the hump.
“I felt like the whole season we were kind of that underdog, we weren't really considered much but I felt like we did a really good job at just staying true to ourselves, being us and fighting,” she told NBL1 Media.
“I felt like when we won, we knew we could do it the whole time.”
As one of the more experienced players signed thus far, Yaeger will need to embody that mentality again with the Mavericks – as the team finished with a 2-16 record last season. With new recruits and Yaeger’s talents, she is optimistic for a stronger season ahead.
“The Mavericks was a good fit for me. I liked the coach and I just felt like it was the best option for me,” she said.
“I really like the group of girls. They've been really great to play with. Excited for the new challenge, of having a different role.
“Trying to not necessarily just go in and do my thing. I want to go help other people get better and help the team grow and hopefully start building something there. So I'm looking forward to a different kind of challenge.”
