NBL1 North superstar Courtney Woods has made a major move, leaving the champion Northside Wizards to play for the Darwin Salties in 2024.
After winning the 2022 NBL1 North championship with the Townsville Flames, Woods returned home to Brisbane with the Wizards for the 2023 season.
Becoming the star player for the team, she averaged 24.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists and led Northside to the 2023 NBL1 North championship.
She claimed both the regular-season MVP and Finals MVP, proving she is one of the best players in the country after both her WNBL and NBL1 success.
In 2024 she’ll head to the Northern Territory, where Salties’ general manager Matt Nason is excited to bring on Woods as their first signing for next season.
"Courtney was the standout athlete in the women’s NBL1 North last season and this is a great signing for the club," Nason said.
"The Salties women played finals in 2023 for the first time and we want to make the top 4 and play a 'home' final in 2024 - that's the immediate goal and we know Courtney will help us get there."
Women’s head coach Rod Tremlett added he is thrilled to have Woods join the club.
"Courtney is a proven winner. She is in rare company over the last 12 months winning both an WNBL and NBL1 North Championship plus she was MVP of our League," he said.
"Her leadership is going to be invaluable as we look to build on the successes of 2023. Courtney’s friendly nature will also ensure she is a crowd favourite. Having players of her calibre here will inspire local juniors which is critical to the ongoing success of the Salties.”
