The Frankston Blues have secured their second win of round two after holding off a spirited effort from the Dandenong Rangers.
The first half was a back-and-forth, entertaining affair, with Dandenong taking a slim, two-point lead into the main break.
The Rangers were led by the spectacular duo of Jemma Potter and Emilee Harmon, who combined for 51 points on the evening (28 and 23 respectively).
Everything changed as the two sides entered the second half, with Frankston taking control on the back of another hot-shooting evening from Darcee Garbin.
Garbin tallied 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead the Blues through a dominant third quarter.
That, combined with some fantastic all-around play from Tessa Lavey (18 points, eight rebounds, eight assists) and a considerable rebounding edge ultimately saw the Blues take the victory on their home court.
Knox Raiders 82 def Kilsyth Cobras 70
The Knox Raiders have held onto their undefeated record, taking down the Kilsyth Cobras at home thanks to a strong second half showing.
The game was neck-and-neck early on as both teams traded leads early.
The Cobras were buoyed by a strong inside-out showing from Lauren Scherf (20 points and 10 rebounds) and Briahna Whatman (15 points, three three-pointers), but still trailed at half time by a single point.
While Kilsyth looked dangerous, the Raiders were determined not to let them take control, pulling ahead in the third term.
A great, whole team performance helped Knox hold onto their lead in the final quarter.
The Raiders had four players score in double figures, Klara Wischer (18 points), Marianna Tolo (14 points), Kiera Rowe (12 points) and Leah Santomaggio (12 points), which was enough to secure the 12 point win.
Sandringham Sabres 72 def Mt Gambier Pioneers 70
The Sandringham Sabres have spoiled the Mt Gambier Pioneers comeback attempt to lock in its second win of the season.
After a close first term, the Sabres pulled away in the second and third quarters on the back of a massive performance from Jenna O’Hea.
The experienced forward was scoring from all over the court on the way to a 27-point, six-rebound and five-assist outing.
Leading 54-41 going into the last quarter, Sandringham were feeling confident, however the Pioneers were far from done.
Mt Gambier, led by 17 points and 10 rebounds from Hannah Young, battled back into the game, tying the scores at 66-66 with only minutes to go.
It would not be enough in the end, as some clutch shooting from O’Hea helped secure the win for Sandringham.
Eltham Wildcats 84 def Diamond Valley Eagles 52
The Eltham Wildcats have dominated the Diamond Valley Eagles at home for its second victory of the season.
It was all Eltham, all game as the Wildcats got whatever they wanted on the interior and outside.
Anneli Maley put together one of the most impressive performances of the young season, tallying 20 points and 29 rebounds for the Wildcats.
Maley was one of five players for Eltham who finished the game with double digit points.
The lone bright spot for the Eagles was a double-double from Teah Reichert (11 points and 12 rebounds).
Albury Wodonga Bandits 68 def by Melbourne Tigers 116
The Melbourne Tigers have secured their first was of the NBL1 season in emphatic fashion, thrashing Albury Wodonga from start to finish on the road.
A 31-13 opening term set the tone for the Tigers, who emphasized the three-pointer as their primary weapon.
Melbourne netted 18 triples as a team on the evening, with Isabella Brancatisano leading the way with seven three-pointers of her own.
She was supported by Monique Conti, who led all scorers with 28 points.
Emma Mahady continued her hot run of scoring for the Bandits, tallying 24 points, however lacked support from her teammates, leading to the 48-point loss.
Ringwood Hawks 84 def Geelong Supercats 55
The Ringwood Hawks put on a show on their home court, denying the Geelong Supercats their first win of the season.
The Hawks were locked in defensively from the opening tip, holding the Supercats to just 26 first-half points.
Ringwood’s defense was supplemented by a fast-passing offence, as the Hawks created great opportunities for each other and continually moved the ball in search of the best shot each possession.
Marena Whittle topped all scorers for the game, finishing with 20 points to go along with 13 rebounds for Ringwood.
For Geelong, despite showing some more fight in the third quarter, which they won 17-16, it was a difficult evening.
Stephanie Blicavs tallied 17 points for the Supercats, however the first half damage was too much to overcome.
Launceston Tornadoes 92 def Ballarat Rush 61
The Launceston Tornadoes have held firm on their home court, handing Ballarat its first loss of the season on the back of another huge game from Keely Froling.
Coming off her enormous 42-point, 22-rebound season opener, Froling didn’t show any signs of slowing down.
The forward finished with 28 points and 19 rebounds, leading Launceston over a tired looking Ballarat side.
Playing their second game in as many nights, the Rush looked a step behind all evening, shooting the ball poorly and falling asleep on the boards.
Alicia Froling tried her best to upstage her sister, finishing with 27 points for Ballarat, however some ice-cold shooting from behind the arch resulted in the Rush dropping their first game of the year.
