Rising star Bailey Flavell has signed with the Launceston Tornadoes for the 2025 NBL1 South season.
The 17-year-old New Zealander had an outstanding 2024, being named to the Tall Ferns roster and competing in the FIBA World Cup Pre-Qualifier in Mexico.
As co-captain of the U17 Women’s team at the FIBA World Cup, Flavell led the team in multiple categories, including points, blocks and steals and ended the tournament as the third-leading scorer in the tournament with an average of 18.9 points per game.
“I am very excited to come to Tassie and play for the Launceston Tornadoes,” Flavell said.
“I am looking forward to playing for Zoe (Mesman) and in the NBL1 South.”
Former Torando and now head coach Mesman explained what Flavell will bring to the line-up.
“I’m thrilled to welcome the next generation of NZ basketball to our program here in Launceston. Despite her age, Bailey’s maturity and understanding of the game make her a standout on any court. Her fearless attitude is a credit to her and her family,” she said.
"Bailey’s defensive hustle and ability to block shots and steal the ball are exceptional. Her moves and confidence around the rim will inspire young players across our State. She will inspire both NZ and Tasmanian basketball communities."
