Christmas has come early for the Sunshine Coast Phoenix with the club securing the services of highly coveted player Mason Bragg for at least the next two NBL1 seasons.
The Phoenix beat out several NBL1 clubs for the prized signature of Bragg, who will be re-united on the coast with his father Keith, who is the Phoenix Junior Director of Coaching.
The 138-game NBL1 star will bring a wealth experience to the sunshine state, with a basketball resume including an NBL Championship in 2017 with the Perth Wildcats (2016-2018), a season with the Adelaide 36ers (2018-19 season) as well as time playing in the New Zealand National League and Malaysia.
In more recent years Bragg has been playing for his hometown North-West Thunder in the NBL1 South Conference, taking out the team's MVP in 2018 and providing leadership to the 2021 squad that was atop the NBL1 South ladder when the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Bragg, who will move permanently to the Sunshine Coast in the new year, had this to say about his signing with the NBL1 North club: "I am extremely excited to have signed on with the Sunshine Coast Phoenix and look forward to representing the club both on and off the floor.
"I believe that with the playing group we are building, we can play an exciting brand of basketball and achieve great things in the 2022 NBL1 North season."
Newly appointed Phoenix Men’s Head Coach Brad Chalmers was equally excited about securing Bragg as his first major signing for the club: "Knowing Mason well, I couldn't be more excited with his signing and his commitment levels to what we are trying to build as our first key piece for the team.
"His experience, skills and leadership are top end at this level, and I can't wait to work with him next year."
