The Lakeside Lightning handed the Rockingham Flames their first loss of the NBL1 West season with 61 points and 25 rebounds from Marnelle Garraud and Teige Morrell while Marek Nelson helped the Eastern Suns keep building some momentum.
In Saturday night's women's NBL1 West action, the East Perth Eagles beat the Mandurah Magic 91-68, the Eastern Suns defeated the South West Slammers 106-65, the Cockburn Cougars downed the Joondalup Wolves 83-51, the Lakeside Lightning won 76-67 over the Rockingham Flames, and the Perry Lakes Hawks beat the Goldfields Giants 105-65.
Then in the men's match ups, the Geraldton Buccaneers beat the Warwick Senators 106-77 while the Eagles beat the Magic 96-88, the Eastern Suns defeated the Slammers 83-76, the Wolves downed the Cougars 109-80, the Flames won 89-75 over the Lightning, and the Giants defeated the Hawks 90-79.

Mandurah Magic (68) lost to East Perth Eagles (91)
Things are starting to click for the East Perth Eagles as they made it a double win weekend with the 91-68 road win over the Mandurah Magic.
The Eagles opened their weekend with a wild home clash with the Joondalup Wolves where they ended up prevailing in double overtime which gave them three wins in the last six matches after opening the season losing six in-a-row.
They took on a Magic team at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre having won two of its past three as well and attempting to break into the top eight.
The Eagles had every right to be exhausted after the previous night and then with the trip south to Mandurah. It was the Magic who made the flying start to be up 14 in the opening period before leading 26-15 still after one.
East Perth was able to work right back into the contest in the second frame, though, with 22 points to 12 and that was enough to cut the Mandurah advantage to 38-37 at half-time.
The Eagles then turned on the afterburners in the third quarter with some scintillating basketball scoring 34 points to just 13 from the Magic.
That saw the East Perth lead get out to 20 points and then the Eagles went on with the job with the lead growing to 30 in the fourth term before they scored the 23-point victory.
The road victory means that East Perth has won four games of the season with two of them against Joondalup and now the other two against Mandurah with the Eagles now having won consecutive games for the first time this season, and first time since May last year.
East Perth now improves to 4-9 on the season with import pair Laci Hawthorne and Mary Baskerville once again outstanding. Hawthorne finished with 22 points and nine rebounds, and Baskerville 22 points, 19 rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Sarah Allen also delivered 17 points, five assists and three rebounds in her 99th game while Mary Goulding contributed 13 points and five assists, and Tessa Morrison eight points and five assists.
Mandurah slips to 5-9 on the season with the loss with Sam Roscoe top-scoring with 19 points, three assists and two rebounds.
Fellow new arrival Donica Cosby added 15 points and five assists with Emma Klasztorny contributing 10 points on 5/7 shooting, and Casey Mihovilovich 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals in her 567th game in the league.
The Magic remain at home to the Warwick Senators next Saturday night with the Eagles on the road to the South West Slammers.

South West Slammers (65) lost to Kalamunda Eastern Suns (106)
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant had her best night in the NBL1 West to lead the Kalamunda Eastern Suns to the 106-65 win on the road to the South West Slammers.
The Slammers were back home at Eaton Recreation Centre still hunting a first win in more than two years with the Eastern Suns arriving having won at home over South West just two weeks ago by 27 points for a second win of 2024.
It was a hot opening from the Suns as they piled on 35 points to 11 in the opening quarter to open up a lead as big as 27 points.
Kalamunda then managed another 28 points to 20 in the second period and that saw them head into the half-time break leading 63-31.
It was more of the same from the Eastern Suns in the third quarter with that lead growing to 44 points before they scored the eventual 31-point victory.
The win improves the Suns to a 3-11 record on the season with Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant having her standout performance of the season with 28 points, 15 rebounds and three steals on 12/19 shooting from the floor.
Tiahna Sears also finished with 24 points and six rebounds for Kalamunda, Olivia Berry 20 points, four assists and three boards, and Ella Fotu 16 points, six rebounds and five assists.
The Slammers are now 0-13 on the season with that losing streak growing to 45 going back further with returning 220-game veteran Courtney Bayliss top-scoring with 18 points on 5/13 three-point shooting.
Addison Edwards added 16 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks, Javene Fitch nine points and nine boards, and Zaya Black seven points, five assists and five steals.
The Slammers will remain home next Saturday night against the East Perth Eagles with the Eastern Suns hosting the Joondalup Wolves that same evening.

Joondalup Wolves (51) lost to Cockburn Cougars (83)
The defending champion Cockburn Cougars inflicted some more pain on the Joondalup Wolves with the 83-51 victory at HBF Arena.
The Cougars arrived in Joondalup knocking on the door of the top two on the back of winning their last couple of games while the Wolfpack were fresh off a gruelling double overtime loss to the East Perth Eagles on Friday night.
The Wolves were back at home but still without Emma Clarke, Julia Chandler and Jorjah Smith on top of the sore bodies from the 50 minutes of basketball the previous night against the Eagles.
Cockburn were fresh having not played since winning the Grand Final rematch against Willetton by 18 points last Friday night and the Cougars were on fire from the start going on a 12-0 scoring run to close the first quarter and be leading 29-10.
The Wolves did hit back with 10 straight points in the second quarter but the Cougars were able to continue to grow that lead to be up 52-30 by half-time.
It was another 21 points to 12 in the third quarter from Cockburn and the lead got out to as much as 34 points in the second half before the defending champs ended up scoring the 32-point victory.
It's a third straight win for the Cougars who improve to an 11-3 record with Steph Gorman delivering 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Alex Ciabattoni added 14 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and two blocks with Daniel Raber contributing 14 points, six boards, three assists and three steals, Regan Turnour-McCarty 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Jewel Williams nine points and five assists.
Maria Blazejewski also was back in the line-up for her second game after hurting an ankle in her first appearance. She got through almost 19 minutes and had eight points and five rebounds.
The Wolves are now 6-6 having now lost four in-a-row and six of the past seven after starting the season with five consecutive victories.
It was a tough night for the key Joondalup players with Geraldynn Leaupepe managing just under 17 minutes for five points and three assists on 1/10 shooting while Darien Huff had just five points and three steals on 1/4 shooting, and Sarah Toeaina four points and three rebounds on 2/5.
Sirena Tuitele top-scored for the Wolfpack with 13 points and six rebounds with Josephine Odude contributing 12 points and seven boards, and Kyah Nichols six points and three rebounds.
The Cougars back up at home to the Goldfields Giants on Sunday with the Wolves to be hosting the Perry Lakes Hawks on Friday night.

Rockingham Flames (67) lost to Lakeside Lightning (76)
Momentum keeps building for the Lakeside Lightning this season with them handing the Rockingham Flames a first defeat of 2024 with the 76-67 road victory.
The Flames were on their home floor on Saturday at Mike Barnett Sports Complex putting their perfect 13-0 record on the line.
Even though Rockingham was without two-time MVP Alex Sharp along with tenacious guard Sophie Doran, the Flames were fresh while Lakeside was coming off a heart stopping one-point win the previous night against the Perth Redbacks.
The Lightning were also still without Caitie Jones for the trip to Rockingham and then it was the Flames racing out to an 11-point lead early in the piece.
Lakeside responded with an 11-0 run of their own and scores were all square at 16-16 by the end of one.
It was Rockingham clinging to a 34-33 advantage at the half before the Lightning were on fire in the third frame with 32 points to 19 to open up their own 13-point lead.
Rockingham had to respond to avoid a first loss of the season but it wasn’t to be with Lakeside having the answers down the stretch to hold on for the nine-point win.
The win sees the Lightning improve to an 8-4 record on the season with their import pairing dominant combining for 61 points, 25 rebounds and five assists.
That was made up of Teige Morrell delivering 31 points, 18 rebounds and two blocks on 12/17 shooting and 7/8 from the foul line up against several of her former Joondalup teammates.
Then there was Marnelle Garraud with 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals with 5/11 three-point shooting and going 13/16 at the free-throw line.
Molly Wilson added seven points and two rebounds, Jade Gowland six points and six boards, and 173-game veteran guard Tia Ucich seven assists and six rebounds.
The Flames are now 13-1 and only just ahead of the 11-2 Warwick Senators and 11-3 Cockburn Cougars now with that first defeat.
Nes'eya Parker-Williams still continued her standout first season in Rockingham with 20 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists with fellow former Wolves teammate Robbi Ryan adding 13 points, six boards and three assists.
Georgia Pineau also ended up with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Emma Gandini nine points, four boards, three steals and two assists.
The Flames are on the road to the Perth Redbacks on Friday night with the Lightning away to the Cockburn Cougars on Saturday.

Perry Lakes Hawks (105) defeated Goldfields Giants (65)
The Perry Lakes Hawks maintained their hold on fourth position in the NBL1 West with the commanding 105-65 home victory over the Goldfields Giants.
The Hawks came into the match up at Bendat Basketball Centre in fourth place having won seven of the last nine games while the Giants were playing their first of a back-to-back on the road trying to back up Sunday's win against the East Perth Eagles.
It was a stunning opening from Perry Lakes on its home floor to end up leading by as much as 20 points and still being on top 28-12 by quarter-time.
It was another 28 points to 21 in the second term for Perry Lakes and the lead got out to 25 points, and the Hawks were in control at 56-33 by the half-time break.
The Hawks delivered another 29 points to 16 in the third quarter and then 20 to 16 in the fourth to end up leading by as much as 42 on the way to the eventual 40-point triumph.
The win improves Perry Lakes to a 9-4 record to remain inside the top four with Grace Stone standing out with 25 points, six assists and five rebounds with 5/8 shooting from three-point range.
Maddy Dennis also had 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks for the Hawks with Ash Isenbarger adding 14 points and five boards, and Ellie Newman 11 points and four rebounds.
Millie McCarthy contributed 10 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals, and Mia Satie eight points, seven boards, four steals and three assists.
The Giants are now 3-10 with the defeat with Jhazmin Joson putting up 18 points and six assists with 4/6 shooting from behind the three-point arc.
Chloe Zorzi added 11 points, three rebounds and two steals, and Anne Zipser eight points, three boards and two assists.
The Giants wrap up their road double on Sunday against the Cockburn Cougars with the Hawks away to the Joondalup Wolves on Friday.

Geraldton Buccaneers (106) defeated Warwick Senators (77)
The circumstances and the surroundings might have been a little different but the Geraldton Buccaneers kept on winning with the 106-77 victory over the Warwick Senators.
Due to the weather conditions in Geraldton making the main court at Active West Stadium not suitable to be played on in the evening on Saturday, initially the game was moved to the afternoon.
That remained the case but it was also moved out onto Court 5 in the venue to provide a safter playing environment while the Buccs were also without head coach Dayle Joseph with Carter Cook taking over for the contest.
The Senators also arrived with star import big man Todd Withers making their job all that more challenging to upset the league-leading defending champions who came into the match up on a five-game winning run.
After a good start on the road from the Senators, the Buccs worked on top with a 10-0 scoring run to take a 25-21 lead into quarter-time.
Geraldton then continued to pull away with another 28 points to 20 in the second term to go into half-time leading 53-41.
The Buccaneers then continued to build on that lead with 33 points to 23 in the third period, and 20 to 13 in the fourth on the way to the eventual 29-point win on their makeshift home floor for the afternoon.
The victory improves Geraldton to a 13-1 record on the season to remain clear in top spot with Grand Final MVP Johny Narkle still to come back into the line-up.
South Australian point guard Nik DeSantis was once again outstanding for the Buccaneers with 25 points, four assists and three rebounds on 5/7 three-point shooting.
Joshua Keyes added 23 points, 10 boards, five assists, three blocks and two steals while Liam Hunt contributed 12 points and eight rebounds, Bob Griechen 11 points and two boards, and 513-game veteran Mat Wundenberg eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Aaron Ralph also had eight points and four rebounds with another two three-pointers to take his career tally to 1054 in the chase down of Ryan Neill's 1097 while former league MVP Josh Braun had eight points and four assists.
It was a tough job for Warwick without Todd Withers and with Zac Gattorna still not having stepped on the floor this season and unavailable to face the team he won a championship with in 2023.
Perth Wildcats guard Michael Harris finished with 30 points and five assists for the Senators with former captain Cody Ellis putting up 15 points, a season-high 11 rebounds and four assists.
Tyler Shand also had nine points, seven rebounds and four assists, and George Pearl five points, five assists and three rebounds.
The Buccs hit the road next week to play in Rockingham on Saturday night and then away to the Perry Lakes Hawks on Sunday with captain Aaron Ralph set to play his 450th game. The Senators remain on the road to the Mandurah Magic on Saturday.

The East Perth Eagles gave themselves a perfect 24 hours by backing up beating the Joondalup Wolves with the 96-88 road victory against the Mandurah Magic.
While the Magic were at home at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre on a five-game winning streak and the fresher of the teams with their only game of the weekend, they were without MVP fancy Joel Murray.
The Magic were without Murray's 32.2 points, 7.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds a game with East Perth coming into the match up having won six of the past eight games while also now welcoming in import centre Lukas Milner this weekend.
East Perth was also without 156-game NBL veteran Sunday Dech and despite not having the brilliance of Murray, Mandurah came out firing going out to a 14-point lead in the first quarter and still leading 30-19 by quarter-time.
However, East Perth worked on top in the second quarter with 29 points to 20 to cut the Magic lead to 50-48 at half-time.
The Eagles were then able to take control in the second half with 23 points to 16 in the third frame and then pushing their advantage out to 15 points in the final term.
East Perth then ended up winning by eight points to improve to a 9-6 record on the season with Perth Wildcats big man David Okwera putting up 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Sebit Reath added 22 points and 11 rebounds on 5/10 three-point shooting with Lee Roberts contributing 16 points, seven boards, four assists and two steals, Taylor Young 13 points and nine assists, and Nick Filpo 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Mandurah slips to 9-6 as well with the defeat despite 25 points and 16 rebounds on 9/13 shooting from impressive big man Michael Durr.
Lachlan Bertram continued his career-best season with 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals while Julian Pesava contributed 21 points and three assists, and Jarrod Molnar 13 points and two assists.
The Magic remain at home to the Warwick Senators next Saturday night with the Eagles on the road to the South West Slammers.

South West Slammers (76) lost to Kalamunda Eastern Suns (83)
The Kalamunda Eastern Suns have now won four of its last five games following the 83-76 road win over the South West Slammers on Saturday night.
The Suns arrived at Eaton Recreation Centre having won three of the past four games, but the loss in that period was against the Slammers on their home floor just two weeks ago.
The Slammers were also looking for a win to get off the bottom of the standings and it was the home team on top for the majority of the opening three quarters.
South West were leading 19-16 by quarter-time before holding on to the 40-39 advantage at half-time.
The Slammers managed to lead by as much as nine points in the third quarter and they had thrown down the challenge to the Eastern Suns, but with Marek Nelson firing, they were able to work their way on top.
Kalamunda would score eight consecutive points to take the lead and then thanks to 23 points to 12 in the final period, the Suns held on for the seven-point victory.
The win takes the Eastern Suns to a 5-10 record on the season with Marek Nelson continuing his hot run of form with another 36 points, seven steals, three assists and two rebounds on 11/18 shooting from the floor and 11/18 at the free-throw line.
Raphell Thomas-Edwards added 18 points, 10 rebounds and two assists with Ian Lavalaye contributing 12 points and four boards on 5/7 shooting, and Reece Maxwell eight points, three rebounds and two assists in his 318th game.
The Slammers have now lost three in-a-row to be 3-12 on the season with Buay Tuach producing another performance made up of 23 points and seven rebounds.
Pharell Keats continues to be a player on the rise too with another 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists with 4/7 three-point shooting while Alex Holcombe added 13 points, 10 boards, three assists, two steals and two blocks, and Devan Craig 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.
The Slammers will remain home next Saturday night against the East Perth Eagles with the Eastern Suns hosting the Joondalup Wolves that same evening.

Joondalup Wolves (109) defeated Cockburn Cougars (80)
The Joondalup Wolves avoided a third straight defeat by returning home to beat the Cockburn Cougars 109-80 on the back of 31 points from Jonathan Wade who nailed five three-pointers.
The Wolfpack were back home at HBF Arena after losing away to the East Perth Eagles on Friday night and to still be without Ethan Elliott and Jordan Wellsteed with Jeremy Combs still yet to suit up.
They were playing host to a Cockburn team on an eight-game losing streak as well and still being without Josh Hunt, Hunter Clarke and Demetris Morant.
That meant both teams were attempting to figure things out and to find some confidence, and it was Joondalup holding a narrow 24-22 edge by the end of the first quarter.
The Wolfpack were able to turn that into a double-digit lead in the second period and then went into the half-time break leading 51-40.
The lead continued to grow for Joondalup throughout the second half with the Wolves up by 17 points in the third term and 34 when they were able to complete a run of scoring 21 consecutive points.
From there the Wolfpack cruised to the eventual 29-point victory to improve them to a 9-4 record on the season with Jonathan Wade outstanding with 31 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals with 5/10 shooting from three-point range.
Christian Jurlina also contributed 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals, CJ Turnage 16 points, four boards and three assists, and Caleb Davis 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Luca O'Brien stepped up as well for 12 points on 5/6 shooting with Gabriel Chadinha also ending up with 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
The Cougars have now lost nine straight matches with a 3-12 record despite 18 points and seven rebounds from retiring captain Gavin Field in his 332nd game who shot 7/14 from the floor and 4/9 from three-point range.
Rhys Vague added 11 points and 10 rebounds, Seva Chan 11 points and five assists, Nathan Pond 11 points and nine rebounds, and Riley Bensemann 11 points, four boards and two assists.
The Cougars back up at home to the Goldfields Giants on Sunday with the Wolves to be hosting the Perry Lakes Hawks on Friday night.

Rockingham Flames (89) defeated Lakeside Lightning (75)
The Rockingham Flames snapped a four-game losing streak and denied the Lakeside Lightning two wins inside 24 hours with the 89-75 Saturday night home victory.
The Flames were back home at Mike Barnett Sports Complex attempting to end a four-game losing slide and still missing two-time MVP Devondrick Walker, but couldn’t afford to keep losing or risked falling from a playoff position altogether.
The Lightning arrived in Rockingham on the back of Friday night's 22-point win at home to the Perth Redbacks to keep their own playoff hopes alive on the back of a 43-point outburst from Mike Adewunmi.
Rockingham could have finished the round out of the top eight with a fifth straight loss but the Flames started strongly with a 13-0 run in the first quarter and to be leading already 29-13 by quarter-time.
That would prove to be a match-winning start to the contest as well with Rockingham's lead growing to 20 points in the second period and then the Flames went into half-time leading 47-31.
Rockingham maintained that advantage throughout the second half too and would end up scoring the important 14-point victory as the Flames improved to an 8-6 record on the season.
New Tasmania JackJumpers NBL centre Gorjok Gak was mighty impressive for Rockingham in the win finishing with 24 points, 16 rebounds and five assists on 7/12 shooting from the floor and 9/14 at the foul line.
Jono Janssen also produced another 19 points and eight rebounds for the Flames with Justin Beard contributing 17 points and five boards, Quintin Dove 14 points and two rebounds, and 318-game captain Ryan Godfrey 11 points and nine assists.
The Lightning slipped further from playoff calculations at 4-9 with the defeat with Mike Adewunmi unable to repeat his Friday night heroics. Rockingham did well restricting him to 14 points and five rebounds on 3/10 shooting.
Marshawn Blackmon finished with 23 points and nine rebounds with Dom Jackson contributing 15 points and three boards, and Max Richards eight points and three rebounds.
The Flames are on the road to the Perth Redbacks on Friday night with the Lightning away to the Cockburn Cougars on Saturday.

Perry Lakes Hawks (79) lost to Goldfields Giants (90)
The Goldfields Giants are building some impressive momentum on the back of a 90-79 road victory against the Perry Lakes Hawks on Saturday night.
The Giants arrived at Bendat Basketball Centre having won three straight matches taking on a Hawks team also with confidence out of winning their past two games to be clinging to eighth position.
Goldfields might have lost six of its first 10 matches this season, but in each one of those they were in winning positions and had their chances, but now the Giants are starting to get reward for effort.
The Giants took on the Hawks on the back of wins at home to Lakeside, Rockingham and East Perth, and then started on fire getting out to a 14-5 start to the contest and still leading 25-15 by quarter-time.
The Giants were then still leading 47-37 at half-time but Perry Lakes got going in the third period with 26 points to 18 to set up a tantalising finish.
It was still just an eight-point ball game with just over three minutes to play in favour of the Giants, but then back-to-back three-pointers from big man Mayo Malek sealed the deal and Goldfields went on to secure the 11-point victory.
It's four straight wins now for the Giants as they improve to an 8-6 record as a result with Randy Bell tremendous once more with 23 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.
De'Sean Parsons added 22 points, nine rebounds and three assists with Kon Anguik delivering 15 points, seven boards, three steals and two assists, Mayo Malek 10 points and nine rebounds, and Damon Ballantyne 10 points, five boards and three assists.
The Hawks slip to 7-7 on the season with the defeat on their home floor with Jaylen Key finishing with 21 points, three rebounds and two assists while Luke Phillips contributed 17 points, 18 boards and four assists, and Cooper Hamilton 16 points, five rebounds and four assists.
However, Giants point guard Damon Ballantyne was superb defensively limiting Perry Lakes import Dequan Abrom to two points, two assists and three turnovers on 1/2 field goal shooting.
