Rockhampton has re-signed two key pieces of its men's and women's rosters, locking in Kon Anguik and Lara McSpadden for the 2022 NBL1 North season.
After a frustrating season personally for Anguik due to injury, the club is expecting big things from a fit and fully recovered Anguik and believe he is a major piece in their quest to be competing for a NBL1 North title.
Speaking about his re-signing, Anguik said: "I’m really excited to come back and play for Rockhampton again for a number of reasons.
"I love the team and atmosphere at our home court from our fans and secondly to make up for what was a disappointing season last year, with disruptions to the group through injury and Covid restrictions.
"I am looking forward to getting up to Rockhampton and working with the boys in preseason to prepare for what will be an extremely competitive competition."
Coach Neal Tweedy said: "We always wanted to bring Kon back to the team this season and believe he has a lot to offer our program.
"He had an extremely difficult last season due to injury.
"However, we believe with his versatility, we can use him in many different situations both offensively and defensively in 2022.
"I am extremely happy that he decided to sign with the club."
McSpadden, who is currently playing for the Townsville Fire in the WNBL will return to Rockhampton following her WNBL commitments.
General Manager, Wade Rebetzke said: "Lara was a priority for the club to sign for the 2022 season.
"She proved last year to be a dominant player in the league, winning the NBL1 North Under 23 player of the year and with another WNBL season under her belt we believe Lara is only going to improve on 2021.
"Most importantly, Lara is a quality person who wants the best for the club, and we can’t wait to have her back in Cyclones colours in 2022."
Coach Drew Fenton knows McSpadden extremely well. having coached her in her junior days in New South Wales.
"It will be good to get back on the floor with Lara and I’m committed to helping her to take her game to the next level again next season," Fenton said.
"I will be looking to Lara for some leadership and to be that mentor for our junior players in the association."
McSpadden is super excited about returning to the Cyclones and said: "I’m thrilled to be signing with the Rockhampton Cyclones again this season.
"I can’t wait to get back and get into it with the girls so we can continue to build on our on-court relationship from last season and put more wins on the board when we’re on the road and especially for the best home fans in the league."
