Rising star Corey Jeffs has re-signed with the Kilsyth Cobras for the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 South season.
Jeffs enjoyed a breakout 2021 season, leading the Cobras in steals (1.5spg), ranking second in three point makes (1.6 3PM) and third in scoring (11.0ppg), rebounds (5.2rpg) and assists (2.0apg).
Long known for his perimeter shooting, Jeffs showed he was just as adept at creating off the bounce in 2021, with his 53 percent shooting from inside the arc and solid assist totals establishing him as a key playmaker for the Cobras.
The big-bodied wing also played a key role in establishing the Cobras defence as one of the league’s best in 2021, with the 6'7" Jeffs’ length and quick hands causing constant disruption on the perimeter.
"Corey is versatile, can defend multiple positions and definitely enables us to stretch our opponents defence," Cobras head coach, Pete Godfrey said.
"He’s another highly coachable Cobra who is back with unfinished business."
The Mt Evelyn Meteors junior was also one to raise his game to new heights when it mattered most.
Jeffs opened the 2021 season in style by burying a game-winning three-pointer on opening night against Waverley, and followed that with a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double over championship contenders, the Hobart Chargers.
The former Winona State standout was in stellar form prior to the abrupt end to the season, averaging 18.5ppg over the final two rounds of 2021. Based on Jeffs’ strong finish to 2021 and impressive offseason to date, Godfrey is confident that Jeffs will carry that momentum into the season ahead and raise his game to another level.
"Corey has been working hard right through the offseason and the early signs indicate that he will take another big step in 2022," Godfrey added.
"He is a player with loads of potential to have an impact at the NBL1 level."
