A pair of Bears have re-signed for the 2024 season, with the championship-winning Carla Pitman and scoring machine Brennan Rymer putting pen to paper for the women’s and men’s squads next season.
19-year-old Pitman was an essential piece off the bench this past season, she averaged 13 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the championship squad.
"I’m really excited to be playing with Norths again this coming season. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this group and the culture at the club,” she told the Bears.
“I am looking forward to stepping back on the court with the team and ready to give it my all in the chase for back-to-back championships."
On the men’s side, the 24-points-per-game scorer returns as the club's first men’s signing this offseason. After making the All-Star Five in 2022, Rymer missed half the season with injury, but showed he was going to be even better if healthy.
“I’m excited to be back with the Bears and in the Bear Cave,” he told the Bears.
“We have unfinished business from last year going out in the quarterfinals. We're looking forward to taking it a couple steps further and competing for a National Championship.”
After a season of battling with injuries, Seva Chan will be back and healthy for 2024. After only playing nine games, the talented point guard still managed to average four assists per game (1.5 less than his career average) for the competitive Cockburn Cougars.
“[It was] definitely frustrating after coming off one of my best years in 2022 and was looking to build on that this year,” he told the Cougars.
“I am feeling 100 per cent now with rehab and physio getting me back to where I need to be.”
While the Rockingham Flames have brought back young gun Callum Beard and veteran impact player Travis Durnin, they’ll play alongside captain Ryan Godfrey for another season.
The North Adelaide Rockets have been busy in the month of October, locking down five signings so far.
In the past week, they’ve re-signed high-fyler Koop McCalop, passing savant Durrell MacDonald and young prospect Steven Parfitt.
They have also signed former West Adelaide Bearcat Genna Anderson and American import Richard McCalop for the men’s 2024 squad.
Last season Anderson averaged eight points per game and 10.1 rebounds for the Bearcats in a competitive season, falling out of the Finals by percentage alone. While McCalop is coming off a season in the TBL (The Basketball League), where the athletic forward averaged 15 points and 7.4 rebounds.
Returning for his fourth season, Owen Odigie will suit up once again for the Geelong United Supercats. Odigie ruptured his quadricep in the first game of the season, rendering him unable to play for the rest of the 2023 season.
The NBL veteran averaged 10.3 points per game and 7.7 rebounds in the 2022 NBL1 season and is looking forward to finally returning to the court in 2024.
“I’m excited to get back on court with the boys next season after being sidelined this year,” Odigie told Geelong.
“I want to help the team return to its winning ways and get back to the playoffs next year.”
