The Keilor Thunder’s rise up the ladder is being led by 21-year-old Zac Triplett.
Triplett’s development in the NBL1 is the perfect showcase of the league's pathway to the NBL, with his growth from NBL1 helping him earn a development player contract with Melbourne United.
As he heads into his third NBL season, Triplett reflected on how the NBL1 has been the perfect fit for him to progress his career.
“I’m just more comfortable, and that’s so important in a role like mine where I might be asked to come in and be ready to shoot it right away,” Triplett said to MU Media.
“Whenever coach calls on me, I’m going to be ready to show what I’ve got and do exactly what is needed to help us win.”
Triplett leads Keilor this season in scoring, averaging 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists. The Thunder are an even 4-4 and are well within the hunt for an NBL1 South Finals spot.
In preparation for the upcoming NBL season, Triplett explained the main priorities he needs to keep working on in NBL1 South.
“We’ve spoken about what I need to work on in the NBL1 this offseason, running the point and handling the ball a lot more, coming off ball screens and handling extra pressure against bigger bodies have all been things that have been a priority.”
Keilor will host a double-header weekend at home in Round 7, taking on the Hobart Chargers on Saturday from 6:00pm AEST in the NBL1 South Kayo Freebies Game of the Week.
On Sunday, they will face Jonathan Lawton’s Ringwood Hawks from 2:00pm AEST, live via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App here.
