Two-time NBL champion Mitch Norton will play his first NBL1 season with the NBL1 North’s Southern District Spartans in 2024.
After his first season with the Brisbane Bullets, Norton will continue playing in his home state of Queensland. A Townsville junior, he spent his first five seasons with the Crocodiles – then playing for the Illawarra Hawks and most notably the Perth Wildcats.
During the regular season of NBL24, Norton averaged 7.1 points, 2.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds for the Bullets, who narrowly missed the Play-In by percentage alone.

Norton explained that he’s excited to play back home against some of the best competition in the country.
“The NBL1 has been a great competition for some time now. It will give me a chance to continue to grow my game against quality players in a tough North conference,” he told NBL Media.
“It has been some time since playing in the NBL offseason. To be able to play in Queensland in stadiums I grew up competing in will be a cool moment. After all, it is where my basketball journey really began.”
Joining the Spartans has a deep connection to Norton’s career, reuniting with a former teammate and now coach Peter Crawford.
“Peter Crawford was a big draw card. He was one of my veterans when I first joined the Townsville Crocs roster in 2011. I witnessed how hard he worked to make the 2012 Olympic Team. So to learn from him and get to work with him again is something I’m really looking forward to.”
