Sharpshooter Jarrod Molnar is set to make a major move, leaving the championship-winning Mandurah Magic to join the Southern Tigers in NBL1 Central.
Last season Molnar was critical to the Magic’ run in the West finals, averaging 16.1 points for the season and over three triples per game.
The 29-year-old will play for his sixth NBL1 team this coming season, after suiting up for Albury-Wodonga in 2019, Darwin in 2022, Red City and Cairns in 2023 and Mandurah his past season.
“(After Mandurah) I had the incredible experience of playing in Malaysia, where I contributed to winning another championship. These experiences have taught me what it takes to build a championship mindset, and I'm really excited to bring that to the Tigers.
“A major reason for my move to Central and the Southern Tigers was the opportunity to play under Coach Michael Lake. With his NBL experience, I know he can help me take my game to the next level. I've had several long chats with him and I'm pumped to learn under his guidance and improve as a player.”
Current Adelaide 36ers assistant coach, Lake, explained that Molnar’s spectacular shooting will be a difference-maker for his squad.
“Jarrod is an elite shooter who can impact the scoreboard quickly and brings winning experience to our program,” he said.
“He has good positional size for this league and will allow us to mix up our defensive coverages and schemes with his ability to match up against multiple positions. He is extremely motivated and hardworking which was a massive draw card when recruiting Jarrod. And I have no doubt that he will help drive our standards across the program with his commitment to everyday improvement. I have a feeling he will quickly become a fan favourite.”
Coming into this new roster, Molnar has high expectations for his team. And using his championship experience, he plans to guide his team to the promised land.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of bringing this team to championship contention and contributing not just as a player, but also as a leader,” he said.
“With the experience I've gained over the years, I hope to inspire and guide my teammates to achieve something great next season. I can't wait to get started.”
