The good news keeps coming for the Mount Gambier Pioneers with Hannah Young and Georgia Winter signing for the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 South season.
Young completed her university education at Virginia Tech in the USA while on a basketball scholarship and has gone on to play professionally in Romania and in the WNBL for Newcastle Hunters, Canberra Capital, and Townsville Fire before linking with the Pioneers in 2021.
Young was a solid performer during the COVID-19 shortened NBL1 South 2021 season with an average of 34 minutes, 47 seconds court time each game, and averaged a 37 percent field goal percentage.
Young also achieved a very credible 11.3 points per game with an impressive 8.92 rebounds per game.
Head Coach Matt Sutton said he was pleased that Young was returning to the group for the 2022 season.
"In an interrupted 2021 season I feel like her best was yet to come before the season got shut down," he said.
"Her ability to shoot the ball will be an important part of our structure as well as her ability to rebound and defend against bigger opponents."
Winter is a former Millicent Magic Junior who currently lives in Penola and plays for the Mount Gambier Lakers in the CBL.
Winter is a forward with fantastic shooting abilities, and with her commitment for season 2022 will be following in her sister Emily’s footsteps who played for the Pioneers in 2019, and now plays for the Woodville Warriors in Adelaide.
Head Coach Matt Sutton said it was wonderful news that Winter has committed to the Pioneers.
"It is great to have another local talented player commit to the group," he said.
"Georgia has been working hard, having made the decision to make basketball a priority this year.
"Like her sister, Emily, Georgia is very coachable, and we expect her to develop rapidly."
