Former Ballarat Miner (then Rush) Georgia Amoore has been drafted sixth overall by the Washington Mystics in the 2025 WNBA draft.

As a Victorian country representative and having played for the club in both the SEABL and NBL1 eras, Amoore is one of Ballarat’s biggest success stories in its fabled history.

Amoore played in the NBL1’s inaugural season back in 2019, playing in 11 games for the Rush.

She then went on to have a historic run in collegiate basketball, playing 154 games for Virginia Tech and Kentucky and winning the 2023 ACC Championship, a 2023 Final Four appearance and finishing in school records for assists and three-pointers.

Basketball Ballarat CEO Neville Ivey said her journey has been awe-inspiring

“Georgia’s rise has been nothing short of inspirational,” Ivey said.

“She represents everything we strive to instil in our players – passion, humility, and a relentless drive to improve. Today’s news is a celebration of her talent and her journey from Ballarat to the big time.”

She’ll join another Vic country star and former Miner in Jade Melbourne on the Mystics roster.
