Barker back in Blue

The Frankston Blues have announced the return of Lachlan Barker for the upcoming NBL1 South season.

Following the cancellation of the 2020 NBL1 South season, Barker’s commitment has been rolled over to begin this upcoming season.

In the 2019 NBL1 season, the Tasmanian was one of six Blues players to average double figures, providing 13.6 points per game that included shooting at 42 percent from three-point territory. He also chimed in with 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting a team-best 87 percent from the free-throw line and was one of just three players in the side to start all 22 games.

Following on from his first year with the Blues, Barker suited up for the NBL1 All-Stars at the 2019 NBL Blitz.

Coach Andrew Harms spoke about Barker’s contribution to the club.

“From the minute he came here three years ago, Lochie has been a standout with his professionalism and dedication to the game and to promoting the values of our club,” Harms said.

“His arrival brought a culture of professionalism and team-first basketball that has significantly shaped our culture.

“We truly feel he is on the verge of taking a significant leap and consistently being mentioned as one of the premier two-way guards in the league.

“He has come back in fantastic physical condition and will undoubtedly put his mark on the league in 2021 – we can’t wait to see him develop and realise his potential on the floor and keep building his impressive legacy at our club.”

Barker spoke about his return to the Blues and the team’s goal.

“For me, it was a no-brainer to recommit to the club,” he said.

“It’s a great organisation, with a coaching staff that takes unmatched care of its players and has built a great team culture.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the court with the team with one goal in mind… It’s time to win a championship”
