Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence star Ben Henshall has revealed his goals this NBL1 season, by taking on a leadership role, perfecting his point guard craft, and leading by example.
Henshall has signed with the NBL’s Perth Wildcats in this off-season and is using the NBL1 to help him prepare for the big stage.
“I’m working on becoming more of a point guard, I just recently picked that up towards the end of last year,” Henshall said on the latest episode of The NBL1 Show.
“I’ve been working closely with the coaches on my ability to make plays off the screens, shooting the ball a bit better. The plan for me is to see out the rest of the NBL1 season, we’ve got a bunch of guys leaving to college early so it’s going to be a younger squad.
“I need to become more of a leader for the younger guys and set by example.”

Henshall joined the NBL1 East’s Centre of Excellence for 2023 after a season with the NBL1 West's Cockburn Cougars last year in his hometown.
In his time at CoE, Henshall has made some close friends at the AIS campus, making it easier for the group to gel both on and off the court -- which is highlighted by their 9-1 record.
Henshall recognised the priority of taking on a leadership role, with players heading to the college in the US before the NBL1 season ends.
CoE is second on the ladder and Henshall reiterated if the team keeps "playing our own way", success will follow.
“We all gel well and we bond well, especially off the court. Being able to be this close all the time definitely helps us play better together on the court,” Henshall said.
“It’s good to finally get out there and put our training into action.
“The goal for us is taking it day by day, getting our training done during the week, being able to perform and play our way on the weekends. I think that will be huge for us.”
CoE will take on Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai on today at 3:00pm AEST, watch the game live via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App here.
