The Bendigo Bank Bendigo Braves have reappointed Stephen Black as their men’s head coach for the next two NBL1 seasons.
Black is a two-time NBL champion and former Australian Boomer. He played 297 NBL games for the Perth Wildcats, Brisbane Bullets, and Cairns Taipans over 10 seasons, winning championships in 2000 and 2007.
Black will be going into his third season with the club after overseeing the men’s team in 2022 and 2023.
Under Black’s leadership, the Braves men have had exceptional growth and seen significant player development.
Black’s reappointment will see him lead the men’s team for the Bendigo Braves 2024 and 2025 seasons, and he is excited to have the opportunity to coach the men through their next two seasons.
“I am proud and excited to continue with the Braves Men’s program, and grow the culture our young group is building,” Black says.
“I have loved working with a committed group of players and support staff who share my passion for the community and our role as ambassadors and providing local pathways.”
President of the Bendigo Basketball Association, Martin Spottiswood, supports the decision to reappoint Black and is excited to have him back again for the next two NBL1 seasons.
“We’re excited to announce that Stephen is back on board for the 2024 and 2025 Bendigo Braves seasons,” he said.
“Stephen is a big asset to the Bendigo Braves, and his commitment to player excellence and development is second to none.
“We can’t wait to see what Stephen and his team can achieve after watching them this year – we are all extremely excited for what’s to come.”
Acting General Manager of Sport at Red Energy Arena, Sam Cartwright is looking forward to continuing the journey with Black, staying focused on the progression and momentum that’s already in place.
“The Braves will continue to be an important contributor in the community and Stephen is a main driver of this,” Sam said.
“He has shown a commitment to our local youth players, and with continued focus we are excited about the future.”
