The Frankston Blues have locked in their coaches for the 2021 NBL1 South season, with 2019 men’s Coach of the Year Andrew Harms back as men’s coach and Australian basketball legend Belinda Snell returning as women’s coach.
Harms led the Blues to a fairy tale 2019 campaign, as Frankston made the Preliminary Final and created an intense home court atmosphere in front of sold-out crowds. He was awarded the 2019 men’s Coach of the Year award and is looking for more success in the future, having signed on until 2024.
“I’m really excited about committing long term to the club and continuing to build on the progress we have made in recent years,” Harms told fdba.com.au.
“The FDBA board and our CEO Wayne have been brilliant in allowing us the time and resources to build an athlete-centered program that provides a clear pathway for our aspiring junior blues players.
“Most importantly I’m thankful to be working alongside a forward-thinking and progressive team in Jacko, Ash, Paulie, Wayne, and the FDBA board.
“The team first and solution-based mentality we all share will continue to guide us in the coming years as we continue to raise the bar for our athletes both on and off the court.”
Snell had committed to coach the women’s team in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Fresh from winning the 2020 WNBL championship as assistant coach of the Southside Flyers, the former Australian Opal and Olympic Silver Medallist is looking to bring the same success to Frankston.
“I am excited to be back with the Blues for the 2021 season and thank the club for the opportunity once again,” Snell told fdba.com.au.
“After a very challenging 2020, I look forward to working with Jo Wood and Kerryn Mitchell and the talented athlete’s at Frankston as we work towards a strong NBL1 season.”
