The Joondalup Wolves remain undefeated in 2024, but a slip-up in the second half against the Warwick Senators on Friday has caused them to reconsider their defensive plays.
Sitting 7-0 in the NBL1 West men’s competition, head coach David Morrell has urged the Wolves to focus on carrying their first-half momentum into the second, as they face the second-placed Tigers in Round 8.
“We want to control our destiny as much as we can and be aggressive,” Morrell said in the post-game press conference.
“We were great in the second quarter to blow out the lead. We weren’t very good in the second half.
“It got frustrating, the whole second half because we weren’t playing our best basketball. We struggled to find shots in the third quarter.”
The Wolves held on and closed out a 105-90 victory, with three players scoring 20 points or more.
Former Senators point guard Ethan Elliott spoke on the importance of the group’s communication in allowing him to find the correct spots.
“We have a really good offence that allows me to explore in transition. I think we’re very good when I’m getting into the paint, and either looking for myself or looking for a teammate, I think that’s when we’re rolling,” Elliott said.
“The freedom from David [Morrell] is really good for me to be able to just go and find CJ [Turnage] and CD (Caleb Davis) who were cooking tonight.”
Joondalup will host the Willetton Tigers on Saturday night at 7:00pm local time. You can watch the game live via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.
