The South Adelaide Panthers declared open season early in the Kayo Freebies Game of the Week as they tripled out the Central Districts Lions 55-93 at the Den

With both teams possibly unproven as to where their seasons would head - the captain of the Panthers Ash “Splash” Spencer drained six triples of the Panthers 13 for the night to finish with 18 points - but she wasn’t alone.

The Lions were monstered by the return of Darcy Rees (16 points and nine rebounds) and Bella Stratford with 18 points, eight assists, five rebounds and Bianca Stasinowsky (13 points and five rebounds) as the Panthers shot 49 percent from the field for the night.

Tiahna Sears was the standout for the Lions with 24 points and 13 rebounds while Sydney Wright had her moment of brilliance again with eight points, four assists and three rebounds.

The Panthers piled on the points - will it be more of the same down at the Jungle as they take on the Eastern Mavericks??? Find out next Friday on ANZAC Day Basketball at 1:30pm local time via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.

Warriors combine for convincing win over Mavs

The Woodville Warriors finally transferred their recent form in some close losses to the W column with a convincing 73-51 win over the Eastern Mavericks at the Castle of St Clair.

The second term of 21-7 setup the win as they grinded the Mavs into the floor with a 18 percent field goal percentage for the term and an unanswered 11-0 run led by Erin Phillips who banked all nine of her points in the term.

The Mavs through Morgan Yaeger (13 points, six rebounds and three steals) and young gun who burst onto the scene last season in the same venue Daisy Hocking (Seven points and 12 rebounds) tried to fight back but the Warriors controlled the remainder of the evening’s proceedings as they finally got their first W in the win column.

Consistent the last three weeks Jasmin Fejo (14 points, eight rebounds and five assists) and Genna Anderson-Abbey (14 point and 10 rebound double double with three blocks) led the way through four terms along with Naomi Allotey who continues to post solid numbers weekly with 12 points and five rebounds

Saunders sizzles Sabres to snare elusive Springbank win

The Norwood Flames broke another long standing streak in the NBL1 Central winning their first game at Springbank since Round 10 2019 as they snuck over the Sturt Sabres 71 -72 at Pro Bitumen Arena.

Import Emily Saunders had a monster with an impressive career high of 27 points and 23 rebounds with two blocks while the tandem was complete with Amanda Paschal polled 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Paige Padroth turned it on once again in all the stats columns with another classy finish.

The Flames after a strong opening quarter were reeled back in the third then led by as many as six but the Sabres weren’t letting this one go easily with Chelsea Portus (13 points) with two free throws making it 69-70 with 12 seconds remaining. Flames committed the five second violation with the Sabres Paige Padroth (9 points) executing the perfect one two off the sideline then hitting the reverse layup against the window to make it 71-70.

Saunders from the feed off Sophie Kerridge found the jump shot inside the paint with Portus’s heave wide of the target and the Flames taking one off one of their bogey sides.

Not able to have an impact on the final play was Katia Stamatelopulos with five fouls but did plenty of damage for the homeside with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Flames are in the five right now - can they hold off on one of the biggest days of basketball against the Woodville Warriors??? Find out next Friday on ANZAC Day Basketball at 1:30pm local time via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.

The Woodville Warriors made it eight of the last nine against the Eastern Mavericks closing out an electric final term 93-86 at the Castle of St Clair

Both sets of Jackson’s for the Warriors and the Mavericks were potent for their sides as the dominant figures in a highly entertaining contest. Joe Jackson for the Warriors played one of his best in recent memory with a 20 point, 10 rebound, six assist and two blocks.

BJ Symons (13 points and seven rebounds) once again got the Mavs off to a fast start 10-22 in the first term along with guard Broderick Robinson (18 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists)

Dual bigs Tim Trousell (22 points and six rebounds) and Steve Parfitt (15 points and four rebounds) fought back for the Warriors with Parfiitt levelling scores at halftime with the three point buzzer beater.

The Warriors continued to extend their lead in the second half through Uzo Dibiamaka (13 points, seven rebounds with six assists) but the Mavs Dom Jackson led the comeback with 24 points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors however kept the wood over the Mavericks in Woodville with the close out in the final minutes.

Riley rises Flames to first win of 2025 over Sabres

In a battle of the unusually winless historically strong sides - The Norwood Flames left the Sturt Sabres languishing at the bottom after four rounds with a comprehensive 76-99 win at Pro-Bitumen Arena.

The Flames got plenty from their hot hand in Riley Harrap who produced his best of the season with 26 points with three triples with eight rebounds and was well backed up by Anthony Green with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Trey McBride was solid through four quarters with 20 points, four rebounds and three steals as the Flames had five players with ten or more plus went for 28 of 37 from the free throw line to make their money at the charity stripe.

It was a tough night for the Sabres after halftime with Hayden Meakes producing his best of the season with 18 points and three rebounds and Sharif Black quieted with 13 points and five rebounds.

The Flames are flickering after their first win - can they back it up on the biggest day of the season for the historic club over the Woodville Warriors??? Find out next Friday on ANZAC Day Basketball at 3:30pm local time via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.

Glory filled Gaze guides Lions to home win over Panthers

The Kayo Freebies Game of The Week saw a famous basketball name launch a barrage as the hot hand of Spencer Gaze of the Central Districts Lions expel the South Adelaide Panthers 99-83 at the Den. The win kept the Lions undefeated and on top as well as notching their first win at the Den against the Panthers since 2021.

Each team took turns taking momentum in the first three terms with the Lions Kevin Baker (20 points and 11 rebounds) and Jack Stanwix (Nine points, five rebounds and assists with two steals) leading the Lions to a 31-24 lead after one.

The Panthers through 16 first half points to Christian Brandon (21 points and ten rebounds) and contributions from Tom Kubank (15 points, six rebounds and three steals) fought back to make it five at the main change with a 46-51 lead.

Deng Manyang was influential throughout the night - as well as operating above the rim with this rattler.

The second half belonged to Gaze though as he dropped 23 points with eight triples and despite the handy hand of Lloyd McVeigh (14 points and five rebounds) and new import Kaleb Warner (17 points with three triples, seven rebounds and three steals) - the Lions roared away in the final term 33-20 off their sharp shooter.

The Lions have top for the first time this season - can they win five in a row for the first time since late last season when they take on the Forestville Eagles??? Find out next Friday early evening 4:45pm local time via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.
