James Triple Double demolishes Lions in Sunday sweep

The second triple double of the season in the NBL1 Central to new import Ke’Shunan James led the Norwood Flames to a demolition of the Central Districts Lions 109-80 at the ARC at Campbelltown.

Sophie Kerridge (16 points, four assists and three steals) got the Flames roaring to open proceedings with a 12-3 run before Lions coach Joe Noone called timeout to change things up. Tiahna Sears responded for the Lions along with new recruit from UK Super League side the Durham Palatinates Shanique Lucas (11 points, seven steals and four rebounds) who brought some speed to the contest.

The second term belonged to James who took over the contest with a scintillating 13 points to take the Flames to a 58-43 lead at the main break. Amanda Paschal (17 points, seven assists and  white hot once again with 14 points to the main break.

It continued to get ugly from there though as the Lions ran into the hot hand of Maddy Hinton after halftime with 13 second half points to finish with 18 points with three triples. Sears, despite foul trouble limiting her to 26 minutes, still grabbed 19 points and 14 rebounds and along with Sydney Wright produced some positive moments for the Panthers.

The afternoon belonged to James however as she confirmed her presence in our league with a 29 point, 13 rebound and 11 assist announcement to the rest of the competition.

Sapwell’s save Lions in final term close out

It took two on the court and one on the sideline to give the Central Districts Lions equal top back after a engulfing Norwood Flames third term charge was survived 77-87 at the ARC at Campbelltown.

It started the usual way for the Flames - another week another Anthony Green backboard rim rattler in the open lane.

The Lions transition player however saw them jump out with Efe Abogidi taking advantage 4-14 including blocking a player against the defensive glass before coach Tim Odell of the Flames inserted new recruit Louis Bleechmore (Seven points and five rebounds) and returning Aydan Janssan to cut it back to 20-31 at the quarter time break.

Changing momentum for the afternoon was Riley Harrap across the second and third stanzas as in the absence of Trey McBride took over scoring and proceeded with a punchy 19 points with all the trick bags on show to put the Flames in front 65-61 with one to go.

In a storyline that continues to evolve the Lions have found ways to close games out against challengers - this time in the absence of a fouled out Abogidi was led by the Sapwell’s of Kalani (Six points, five assists and four rebounds) and Koen (19 points, eight rebounds and five assists) and Kevin Baker (19 points and 12 rebounds) to give them a 12-26 final term to grant them victory.

Harrap was heated up for two terms for a season high 28 points and six rebounds while Cooper Osborne produced outrageous moments a plenty once again for 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and steals - including this ankle breaker
