Chris Bryant's new home in the Hills

NBL1 East’s Hills Hornets is now “home” for import Chris Bryant, as he aims to lead his new side to a finals berth this season. 

Bryant, fourth in the East in scoring, explained his reasoning on making the move to the Hills after a season with the Inner West Bulls in 2023.

“This [Hills] right here is home, this is my baby. Being at Hills, having that opportunity to have your own group, bigger roles, bigger expectations, put more on your shoulders – that was something I’ve always wanted,” Bryant said via the Love of the Game Podcast.

Averaging 25.6 points and seven rebounds per game, it’s clear the Foot Locker Player of the Week is settling into his new home nicely.

 “I always wanted to see ‘can you lead a group to the finals, can you help carry the team when they need you to get these wins’,” Bryant said. 

“I enjoy the process, I want to be able to show and prove that I’m a winner on any level, with any team that I go on.

“I want to show, ‘this guy here, anywhere he goes, he wins and he brings a winning mentality, he brings a high value’.”

The Hornets sit seventh on the ladder, tied with the Norths Bears on a 3-2 record.

The ANZAC Round medallist reminisced on his unusual Round 1 matchup, which happened to be against his former side. Grateful for his old team, Bryant thanked the Bulls for helping him become an established star in the NBL1 East.

“Shoutout to the Inner West Bulls, without them I probably wouldn’t be here at Hills Hornets. Everything started for me over there,” he said.

“Anywhere you sign as an import, it’s a blessing because you never know when the ball drops, when the ball stops, and it’s over.

“It’s kind of like a deja vu, I had the big dunk in the first game of the season (for the Bulls). First game against Hills that we only played once, and that was my stepping stone into stardom in the league. That’s where I got noticed, putting us on the map.

“My goal for this year - I want us to finish in the top four.”
