The Coles Express NBL1 National Finals weekend scheduled for September 17-19 has been cancelled due to the uncertainty surrounding border control restrictions across Australia.
Coles Express NBL1 League Manager Dean Anglin said: “It is with great sadness that we today announce the NBL1 National Finals will not go ahead this year.
“The health and safety of the players, coaches, referees, officials, volunteers and fans is paramount and our top priority. With this in mind, we were left with no choice but to cancel the National Finals.
“I want to thank Basketball Victoria, Basketball Western Australia, Basketball Queensland and Basketball South Australia for their cooperation during this process.
“The cancellation is designed to enable all Conference Finals to proceed, and we can’t wait to watch the best from NBL1 compete for their Conference Championships.
“The Coles Express NBL1 and the State Associations remain committed to the NBL1 National Final concept. We look forward to this amazing event happening in 2022 where all Conference Champions will converge in one location to battle it out for the national championship crown.”
The NBL1 West and NBL1 Central Conference Finals will begin next weekend, with start dates for the NBL1 South and NBL1 North Conference Finals to be confirmed.
NBL1 South will return this weekend with the Albury-Wodonga Bandits to host the Bendigo Braves on Saturday night. No other NBL1 South games will be played this weekend due to current restrictions in Victoria.
No NBL1 North games will be played for at least the next two weeks due to current restrictions in Queensland.
The Coles Express NBL1 and the State Associations will continue to follow the latest health advice and government restrictions.
The community’s health and safety is paramount and is at the forefront of all decision-making.
