The Waverley Falcons overcame the Nunawading Spectres 84-63 on Saturday night at Waverley Basketball Centre, taking control early and never looking back.
The Falcons dominated with a balanced offensive attack led by Amelia Todhunter's 19 points on an efficient 54.5 percent shooting from the field. Renae Mokrzycki was nearly perfect, hitting 8-of-9 field goals for 17 points while dishing out four assists. Waverley's aggressive play earned them 29 trips to the charity stripe (converting 22) compared to just nine for Nunawading. The home side also forced 19 turnovers while committing only 13 of their own.
Rachel Brewster led the Spectres with 18 points and seven boards but couldn't spark a comeback as Nunawading struggled from outside, hitting just 27.3 percent of their triples. Despite dominating the glass with a 40-31 rebounding advantage, including 18 offensive boards, the Spectres couldn't convert those extra opportunities into points. Rachel Antoniadou added nine points and a game-high seven assists in the losing effort.
