The Cairns Dolphins have made another significant signing, with 5'8" guard Taylor Jones joining for the upcoming Coles Express NBL1 North season, alongside Cayla George, Penina Davidson and Amy Lewis.
Like George and Davidson, the 26-year-old also has links to the Melbourne Boomers – suiting up for their 3x3 Pro Hustle team in 2019 and winning silver medals in Geelong and Darwin.
Originally from NSW, Jones played in the Waratah League before attending Moberly College (Missouri, US) on a full scholarship for her freshman year.
Most recently, Jones has spent the last two years playing for the Pakenham Warriors in the Big V competition.
During their last COVID-impacted season in 2021, Jones averaged 10.5 points and 2.8 rebounds, including a season-high 27 points against Craigieburn.
Jones moved to Cairns with her partner, Taipans assistant coach Sam Gruggen last year and has already commenced pre-season training under Dolphins Head Coach Myra Donkin.
"I moved here to support Sam and the Taipans after playing two years in the Big V in Melbourne," Jones said.
"I thought it would be a cool opportunity to play in the NBL1 North and experience the league up here, so I started training at CBI and one thing led to another,
"It is out-of-this-world exciting.
"I really love our team - Penina, Cayla, Amy and a bunch of young talent are going to be great to play with.
"It’s going to be a great experience to work with the best big in the nation, and hopefully, the Dolphins can win a Championship this year."
