Dynamic US import fills out Giants’ side

A dynamic US guard will join the Northern Star Resources Goldfields Giants ahead of the 2024 NBL1 West season to fill out the women’s side.

The Kalgoorlie Boulder Basketball Association is excited to announce the signing of Lauren Fech as the season tip-off draws closer.

Fech, hailing from Wisconsin, USA, is expected to hit the ground running when she lands in Kalgoorlie- Boulder next month to begin preseason training under Head Coach Jaymi Worthington.

The 25-year-old guard joins the Giants from Germany after finishing her season with the Qool Sharks Wuerzburg.

Prior to her Eurobasket venture Fech played at Winona State University where she studied as a graduate student while playing for the Warriors.

An all-rounder sportsperson, Fech excelled in basketball, softball and American football while in high school and college.

A groundbreaker of sorts, she became the first female football player in the state of Wisconsin to score a touchdown and kick an extra point in the same varsity game. She was also the first female football player ever at her high school.

While she loved football, she was also right at home on the basketball court. She started every varsity game in her four-year college basketball career and was the 2016-17 Marawood-South Conference Player of the Year. She was also all-state honorable mention as a point guard.

In her final season at WSU, Fech was known for draining three-pointers and posting more than 20 points in a game.

Head Coach Jaymi Worthington said Fech will be a “dynamic” player for the Giants.

“She has great composure as a point guard being able to control the tempo of the game as well as knock down the three,” she said.

“Speaking to Lauren, she also prides herself on her lock down defense so I am really looking forward to getting her here and training with the girls for the start of the season."
