East Perth Eagles superstar Taylor Young says his team will be proving people wrong in the 2024 NBL1 West season.
The club struggled in the early stages of last season, finishing with a record of 7-15 for 12th on the ladder. However, the team rallied in the final month of the season, winning three of their past five games (only losing to the conference champion Geraldton Buccaneers in that stretch).
The star import averaged 15.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists for the Eagles, stating that this season he wants to prove to the conference that the Eagles are a serious threat for a Finals campaign.

“I think we are going to be good, (coach) Carl did a good job of retaining most of the guys. I think it’s more about carrying the momentum from last season,” he said on the Too Short For The League podcast.
“This year we might prove somebody wrong, a lot of people wrong. I still don’t think East Perth gets a lot of respect… being respected within the league in general.”
Highlighting the team will play in a new stadium this season and they've been able to retain their stars in Young and NBL1 West rebounding leader Sebit Reath, Young is optimistic about the team’s success in 2024.
“The goal is a championship, but to win a championship is hard anywhere,” he said.
“For us, the most obtainable one is to make playoffs. And then take care of everything we need to take care of.”

For Young personally, his goal this coming season is to lead the conference in assists – last season he ranked within the top 10 in assists per game for the conference.
“That was my goal last year, but I go off to a slow start [with an injury],” he explained.
“It took me a while to get back into basketball shape, but now that I’m healthy and when everyone is back from holidays, we’ll be alright.”
