Frankston overpower Ballarat with flying finish

The Frankston Blues made it four wins on the trot on the back of a big finish to overcome the Ballarat Miners 82-75 at home on Sunday.

Frankston was playing its lone game of the weekend and brought a three-game winning streak into the clash with the travelling Miners, and it was Ballarat who looked on track for a second win of the season for much of the contest.

The Miners led by two points at quarter-time, and then with 25 points to 19 in the third term, the visitors were leading 59-58 at three quarter-time.

However, it was all Frankston in the final period with 24 points to 16 to claim the seven-point victory and to improve to a 5-3 record with the Miners still anchored to last place at 1-8 after starting the season with a win against the Melbourne Tigers.

Louise Brown was outstanding once again for Frankston with 27 points and 10 rebounds on 10/17 shooting including 7/9 at the foul line.

Micaela Cocks added 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Blues, Ella Batish 14 points and seven boards, and Chelsea D'Angelo 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

Abbey Wehrung ended up with 23 points, five assists and three rebounds on 3/6 three-point shooting for Ballarat with Tayanna Jones contributing 18 points and seven boards, and Emma Karamovic 17 points and seven boards.

Barker hits eight threes as Frankston move into top spot

Frankston did drop a game to the Geelong United Supercats last week ahead of hosting Ballarat at Dreamstreet Lending Arena, and the Blues hit back in emphatic fashion starting with 32 points to 22 in the opening period.

While Ballarat fired back with 26 points to 18 in the second term, the Blues dominated the second half with 56 points to 39 to end up recording the 19-point victory.

The win not only improves Frankston to a 6-2 record but has them in top spot after five rounds with the Miners clinging to eighth position at 5-4.
