The NBL1 West’s Mandurah Magic have made a major move, signing Olympian Ally Wilson for the 2025 season.
Wilson has been a star of the NBL1 competition for multiple years, notably leading the Norwood Flames to the 2023 NBL1 Central championship where she was named the Finals MVP.
Last season she made the move to the Bendigo Braves, averaging 16 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 12 games. She missed a large part of the season due to the Olympics, where Wilson was a part of Australia’s historic first appearance in 3x3 basketball.
She will join the Magic this coming season, joining one of the most successful women’s programs in the state.
'I'm so excited to be a part of the Magic. I've heard such great things about the quality of people within the organisation and I'm really looking forward to being a part of that,” Wilson said.
"From a basketball perspective, I want to help the club win and return to finals basketball. I look forward to bringing my leadership to the playing group and developing juniors coming through".
While women’s head coach Vlad Alava added,
"It's a tremendous signing, not just for our team but the entire organisation. Ally's one of the greatest talents in Australian basketball, Olympian, Lynx MVP and all WNBL First Team selection this season speaks volume to her talent and skill set,” he said.
"But for me, what is equally impressive is the calibre of person she is. Speaking to multiple people who have been part of teams with Ally, they have all commented on what an amazing person she is.
"I'm truly excited to have an exemplary woman on and off the court like Ally wearing our colours this year. We're glad she's on our side, that's for sure"
The NBL1 West season starts on April 4th.
