The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles women’s side have a chip on their shoulder heading into the 2024 NBL1 East season.

After falling short in the NBL1 East Grand Final to the Norths Bears, it left 28-year-old Alex Delaney determined they’re heading into the season ready to finish what they started.

“We’re all pretty keen to run it back next year,” Delaney said via jamesodphotography

“It’s always hard when you get to Finals series and you don’t get over the line, It’s definitely still burning that’s for sure.

“There’s a lot to be proud of from that season, and as a group we’re all really proud.”

The Eagles were a clear championship contender last season, with a leading record of 20-2 and a first-place finish on the ladder at the end of the regular season.

The Bears took down the Eagles 71-56 in the Grand Final, with Delaney admitting her side lacked championship experience – but are ready to fight back.

“Playing in big games, it really comes down to experience. As a group we are quite young, our team is super young,” she said.

“Our group as a whole after having that experience is only going to get better from that, now that we know what it takes to win a championship.”

Delaney has come from a background of basketball players, her teammate and sister Bree are co-stars on the Eagles, having been taught by her mum (Gail Henderson) who played for the Sydney Flames.

She explained having her mum as a role model growing up has influenced her in the basketball world.

“Her knowledge and experience of the game and the advice she’s given me over the years, and pushing me to be my best, you can’t put a price on it,” she explained.

“She’s influenced in every way possible for the better.”
