Panthers pushed by Mavs in Shootout
The South Adelaide Panthers won comfortably in the end but not before the Eastern Mavericks made an almighty push through the game 82-105 at St Francis. The game was much closer than the score suggested with the turning point an ejection of superstar Panther Alex Starling however despite the change in momentum and a hot shooting Mavs in the second quarter, the Panthers survived the home side. Stepping up in Starling’s absence was Todd Davies (25 points at 59 percent), Jarryd Hoppo (20 points and 8 rebounds), an enormous double double from Codey Ellison (15 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists) and a “perfect” 16 points from Kristian Ciabattoni. For the Mavs Nathaniel “Nash” Koko followed up his contribution last week with 20 points including three huge triples from the same spot, while Rigby Aktanarowicz (18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 triples) and veteran Jordan Robertson (15 points and 9 rebounds) provided valuable minutes throughout the night.
Turnage, Harris toe to toe, Flames fire
The crowd at the ARC in Campbelltown were treated to a one-on-one shootout as the Flames ended up dousing the Eagles flight with a boosting 90-83 win at their home gym. POW of week one CJ Turnage starred with 37 points at 60 percent and 9 rebounds and was well supported by Daniel Webber (14 points at 86 percent and 9 rebounds) and Matt Lycett (12 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds) who stepped up after quiet ones the previous week. Not to be overshadowed was Michael Harris who blitzed it again with 35 points and 8 rebounds along with Greg Mays (20 points and 9 rebounds) and Jake Rios (17 points and 3 assists).
West Wurm their way out through Fab Johnson
A first half onslaught from Southern Tiger guard Nick Wurm (20 points in the first half) could not stop a last quarter comeback from the West Adelaide Bearcats as they outlasted the Tigers 88-96 at Morphett Vale. Fabian Johnson setup the comeback for the Bearcats with Bryan Michaels, three triples to star Earnest Ross and an electric last quarter from rookie Akok Machar. Wurm finished with 25 points to lead all scorers with Koop McCalop and Machar Machar also solid for the home side.
Keanu rolls Lions in lights out display
A third quarter blitz from young rookie Keanu Rasmussen of the Sturt Sabres saw them setup a 37-51 second half and claim a comfortable victory over the Central District Lions 70-87 at Starplex. Rasmussen dropped 17 points at 70 percent and 5 rebounds before Joel Spear (16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists) took over the fourth; while Sam Daly (18 points and 6 assists) was consistent the whole night. For the Lions it was the big double duo of Magok Manyang (18 points and 8 rebounds) and Lual Diing (18 points and 5 rebounds) in a highly entertaining contest.
Rockets say sorry Mr Jackson, you are for real as Warriors win again
The Woodville Warriors have won two in a row as they came into the Lights and shut down the launch of the Rockets 61-95. Import Joe Jackson was huge with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks with plenty of assistance from another near triple double from fellow import Julian Jacobs (18 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds) while Luke Stanbridge also dropped 25 points at a game high 79 percent. For the Rockets, only Tobias Dowdell (12 points and 10 rebounds) and Jimma Dau (13 points and 9 rebounds) made doubles and were the best for the red and white.
